🍫 German Chocolate Fudge Pie 🥥
Ingredients
For the Chocolate Fudge Layer:
1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans
For the Coconut-Pecan Topping:
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
3 large egg yolks, lightly beaten
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups sweetened shredded coconut
3/4 cup chopped pecans
Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prepare the Chocolate Fudge Base:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, mix the melted butter, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Add the beaten eggs and whisk until fully combined.
Sift in the flour and cocoa powder, stirring gently until no streaks remain. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped pecans.
Pour the mixture into the unbaked pie crust and spread it evenly with a spatula.
- Bake the Pie:
Place the pie on the center rack of the oven and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the center is set and a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean. Allow the pie to cool completely.
- Make the Coconut-Pecan Topping:
In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks, and butter. Stir constantly until the mixture thickens and becomes bubbly (about 8–10 minutes).
Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract, shredded coconut, chopped pecans, and a pinch of salt. Let it cool slightly.
- Assemble the Pie:
Spread the coconut-pecan topping evenly over the cooled chocolate fudge layer. Use a spatula to smooth it out for a neat finish.
- Serve and Enjoy:
Allow the pie to cool at room temperature or refrigerate for at least 30 minutes for cleaner slices. Garnish with extra pecans or a drizzle of chocolate sauce if desired.
