Chicken Dal Gosht ππ²
Ingredients:
Dals & Tamarind:
Β½ cup Chickpeas (split) π°
ΒΌ cup Pigeon Peas (split) π
ΒΌ cup Red Lentils π΄
1 lemon-sized ball of Tamarind π
Spice Mix:
1 tbsp Coriander Seeds πΏ
1 tsp Cumin Seeds βͺ
1 tsp Fennel Seeds π±
1 tsp Black Peppercorns β«
For Cooking Dal:
1 litre Water π§
1 tsp Salt π§
Β½ tsp Turmeric Powder β¨
Β½ tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste π§
3 Green Chillies Paste πΆοΈ
1 tbsp Oil π’οΈ
To Add to Cooked Dal:
1 tbsp Kasoori Methi π
2 tbsp Chopped Coriander Leaves πΏ
2 tbsp Chopped Mint Leaves πΏ
1 tsp Garam Masala π
For Chicken Masala:
3 tbsp Oil π’οΈ
Whole Spices: 2 Bay Leaves, 4 Cloves, 2 Cinnamon Sticks, 4 Green Cardamoms, 1 Black Cardamom πΏ
1 Onion, sliced π§
1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste π§
500g Chicken π
1 tsp Salt or as per taste π§
2 Tomatoes (deskinned) π
3 Green Chillies Paste πΆοΈ
Β½ tsp Turmeric Powder β¨
1 tsp Red Chilli Powder πΆοΈ
1 tbsp Coriander Powder πΏ
250g Bottle Gourd (lauki) π₯
Β½ cup Water π§
2 Green Chillies πΆοΈ
For Tadka:
2β3 tbsp Ghee π§
3 Garlic Cloves, smashed π§
1 tbsp Onion, chopped π§
1 tsp Red Chilli Powder πΆοΈ
Method:
- Wash & soak dals for 1 hour. β³
- Soak tamarind in 1 cup water and extract pulp. ππ§
- Dry roast coriander, cumin, fennel seeds, and peppercorns. Grind to a coarse powder. π₯π
- In a pressure cooker, add 1L water, soaked dals, salt, turmeric, ginger garlic paste, green chilli paste, and 1 tbsp oil. Cook on high flame till 1 whistle, then low flame for 7β8 mins. π²
- Add kasoori methi, chopped herbs, ground spices, and garam masala. Whisk to mash the dal. π₯£
- In a pan, heat 3 tbsp oil. Add whole spices and sautΓ©. πΏπ₯
- Add onions and cook till golden brown. π§
- Add ginger garlic paste and sautΓ©. π§
- Add chicken and salt. Cook on high flame for 3β4 mins. π
- Add tomatoes, chilli paste, turmeric, red chilli, and coriander powder. Cook till oil separates. π πΆοΈ
- Add bottle gourd and water. Cover and cook 7β8 mins. π₯π₯
- Add cooked dal. Mix and bring to a boil. π
- Add tamarind pulp and green chillies. Cook covered for 7β8 mins. ππΆοΈ
- For tadka, heat ghee, add garlic and onion. Fry till golden. Turn off heat, add red chilli powder and mix. π§π§ π₯
- Pour tadka over dal and mix. π§β¨
- Serve hot with rice, bread, or rotis & enjoy! ππ
