Cheesy Baked Meatball Casserole
π Ingredients
For the meatballs
500 g (1 lb) ground beef (or beef + pork mix)
1 egg
Β½ cup breadcrumbs
ΒΌ cup grated Parmesan
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp salt
Β½ tsp black pepper
1 tsp Italian seasoning
2 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
For the casserole
2 cups marinara or tomato sauce
1Β½β2 cups shredded mozzarella
ΒΌ cup grated Parmesan
Fresh parsley or basil (optional, for topping)
Olive oil (for greasing)

Preheat oven to 190Β°C (375Β°F). Lightly grease a baking dish.
Make the meatballs
In a bowl, mix ground meat, egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, garlic, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and parsley.
Roll into golf-ball-size meatballs.
Brown (optional but recommended)
Heat a pan with a little oil and brown meatballs on all sides (2β3 minutes). They donβt need to be fully cooked.
Assemble the casserole
Spread 1 cup of tomato sauce on the bottom of the dish
Add meatballs in a single layer
Spoon remaining sauce over the top
Sprinkle generously with mozzarella and Parmesan
Bake uncovered for 25β30 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
Finish & serve
Garnish with parsley or basil. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
