🍲 Love-in-a-Bowl Chicken Soup (Grandma Style)
Ingredients (flexible on purpose)
1 whole chicken or 1–1.5 lb bone-in chicken thighs/drumsticks
10–12 cups water (or light chicken broth)
1 onion, halved
2 carrots, sliced
2 celery stalks, sliced
3 garlic cloves, smashed
1 bay leaf
Salt + black pepper (to taste)
Optional cozy extras:
A handful of egg noodles or rice
Fresh parsley or dill
A squeeze of lemon at the end
How to Make It (no stress version)
Start the soup base
Add chicken, water, onion, garlic, bay leaf, salt, and pepper to a big pot.
Bring to a gentle boil, then lower to a simmer.
Let it do its thing
Simmer uncovered for 45–60 minutes.
Skim foam if you feel fancy — or don’t. Grandma wouldn’t judge.
Add veggies
Toss in carrots and celery. Simmer another 10–15 minutes until tender.
Shred the chicken
Take the chicken out, remove bones/skin, shred the meat.
Return chicken to the pot.
Add noodles or rice (optional)
Cook directly in the soup until tender (usually 6–10 minutes).
Finish with love
Taste and adjust salt & pepper.
Add herbs or a tiny squeeze of lemon if you want that “wow, grandma knew things” moment.
Little Grandma Secrets (optional upgrades)
🧈 A tiny knob of butter at the end = richer broth
🌿 Dill makes it taste like Eastern European grandma energy
🧄 Extra garlic if you’re fighting a cold (or life)
