A warm, creamy comfort dish made with potatoes, ham, and lots of melted cheese. Great for dinner or to use leftover ham.
📝 Ingredients
4 cups potatoes, peeled and diced
2 cups cooked ham, diced
1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1½ cups milk
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
½ cup sour cream (optional, for extra creaminess)
¼ cup grated parmesan (optional for topping)
👨‍🍳 Instructions
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a baking dish.
Cook potatoes:
Boil diced potatoes in salted water for 8–10 minutes until slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
Make the sauce:
Melt butter in a pan over medium heat.
Add chopped onion and cook 3–4 minutes until soft.
Stir in flour and cook 1 minute.
Slowly whisk in milk and cook until the sauce thickens.
Add flavor:
Stir in garlic powder, salt, pepper, sour cream, and 1 cup of the cheddar cheese until melted.
Assemble:
In a baking dish, combine potatoes and diced ham. Pour the cheese sauce over and mix gently.
Top:
Sprinkle remaining ½ cup cheddar and parmesan on top.
Bake:
Bake for 25–30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
