Ingredients
For the Crust
2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Apple Filling
4 cups apples (peeled and thinly sliced – Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best)
Β½ cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
ΒΌ tsp nutmeg
1 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp cornstarch
For the Glaze
1 cup powdered sugar
2–3 tbsp milk
Β½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven
Set oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease or line a 9Γ—13 inch baking pan.
Make the crust
In a bowl mix flour, sugar, and salt.
Cut in the cold butter until the mixture becomes crumbly.
Add egg and vanilla and mix until dough forms.
Press the base
Press about 2/3 of the dough into the bottom of the pan to form the crust.
Prepare apple filling
In another bowl mix apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch.
Assemble
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust.
Crumble the remaining dough on top.
Bake
Bake for 40–45 minutes, until golden and the apples are tender.
Cool and glaze
Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make a glaze.
Drizzle over cooled bars or dust with powdered sugar.
Slice and serve
Cut into rectangular bakery-style slices.
