1 tbsp oil
For the Caramelized Onions
2 large onions, thinly sliced
2 tbsp butter or oil
1 tsp sugar (optional, but recommended)
Pinch of salt
👩‍🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Make the Potato Pancakes
Grate the potatoes and onion.
Place in a clean towel and squeeze out as much liquid as possible (this is the secret to crispiness).
Transfer to a bowl, add egg, flour, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
Spoon the mixture into the pan, flatten slightly, and fry 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
Remove and drain on paper towels.
2️⃣ Cook the Savory Beef
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Add onion and cook until soft.
Add garlic and ground beef. Cook until browned.
Season with paprika, salt, pepper, and cumin/Italian seasoning.
Cook until juicy and fragrant. Set aside.
3️⃣ Caramelize the Onions
Heat butter or oil in a pan over low–medium heat.
Add onions and salt. Cook slowly, stirring often.
After 10 minutes, add sugar (optional).
Continue cooking 15–20 minutes until deep golden and sweet.
