🥩 Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy (Classic & Cozy)
This old-school favorite is pure comfort food—juicy beef patties smothered in a rich, savory onion gravy. Easy enough for weeknights, good enough for Sunday dinner. Let’s cook 👇
📝 Ingredients
For the steaks
1 lb (450 g) ground beef
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp Dijon or yellow mustard
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp paprika
For the onion gravy
2 tbsp butter or oil
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt & pepper, to taste
🍳 Instructions
Make the patties
In a bowl, mix all steak ingredients until just combined. Don’t overmix. Shape into 4–5 oval patties.
Brown the steaks
Heat a skillet over medium heat with a little oil. Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
Cook the onions
In the same skillet, melt butter. Add sliced onions and cook until soft and golden, about 8–10 minutes.
Build the gravy
Sprinkle flour over onions, stir for 1 minute. Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring. Add Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thickened.
Finish together
Return steaks to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer 10 minutes until cooked through and tender.
