In the world of natural remedies, few combinations are as ancient and powerful as cinnamon and aloe vera. The image captures a trio of health staples: whole cinnamon bark, fresh aloe slices, and a refreshing drink.
Why these two ingredients?
· Aloe Vera: Known as the “plant of immortality,” it contains vitamins, enzymes, and anti-inflammatory properties. Internally, it helps soothe digestion and hydrate the body.
· Cinnamon: Packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. It is famous for helping regulate blood sugar levels and improving circulation.
The “Eye” Connection: Why is there a picture of an eye?
While you cannot put this drink directly into your eyes, the recipe is often used in home remedies for eye health. It is believed that the combination of improved circulation (from cinnamon), hydration, and the anti-inflammatory properties of aloe can help reduce eye puffiness, dark circles, and dryness when consumed regularly.
Warning: Be extremely careful. Do not put raw aloe or cinnamon water directly into your eyes, as it can cause severe irritation.
Full Recipe: Cinnamon & Aloe Vera Refreshing Drink
This recipe yields a soothing, cleansing drink that tastes mildly sweet and earthy.
Ingredients
· 1 large, fresh Aloe Vera leaf (or 2-3 tablespoons of pure, food-grade aloe vera gel)
· 2 sticks of Cinnamon (Ceylon cinnamon is preferred for daily consumption as it contains lower levels of coumarin)
· 2 cups of Water (filtered or spring water)
· Optional: 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice (adds vitamin C and balances the flavor)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Aloe Vera
· Wash the aloe leaf thoroughly under cold water to remove dirt.
· Using a sharp knife, slice off the jagged sides of the leaf.
· Cut the leaf into 2-3 inch segments.
· Crucial step: Stand the segment upright and slice off the thick green skin to reveal the clear, slimy gel inside. (The yellow “latex” between the skin and gel is bitter and can cause stomach cramps; ensure you scrape it off fully). Rinse the clear gel under cold water.
· Cut the clear gel into small cubes.
Step 2: Infuse the Cinnamon
· In a small pot, bring the 2 cups of water to a boil.
· Add the 2 cinnamon sticks to the boiling water.
· Reduce the heat to a simmer and let it steep for 5–10 minutes. The water should turn a light amber color.
Step 3: Combine and Cool
· Remove the pot from heat and let the cinnamon water cool down to room temperature (this takes about 15 minutes).
· Place the freshly cut aloe vera cubes into a tall glass.
· Pour the cooled cinnamon-infused water over the aloe cubes, straining out the cinnamon sticks if you prefer.
· Optional: Stir in the lemon juice for extra flavor.
Step 4: Chill and Serve
· Place the glass in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to chill.
· Stir well before drinking. The aloe gel will be slippery and slightly chunky; this is entirely normal. Drink it slowly, chewing the aloe pieces to release their nutrients.
Important Safety Warnings (Please Read!)
- Do NOT use the outer green skin: The outer skin of the aloe plant contains aloin, a compound that acts as a potent laxative. It can cause severe stomach cramps and diarrhea. Always use just the inner clear gel.
- Cinnamon caution: Cassia cinnamon (the most common supermarket brand) contains coumarin. Consuming too much coumarin over time can damage the liver. Limit this drink to 1 glass per day and try to use Ceylon cinnamon for safety.
- Not a medical treatment: This drink is a health booster, not a cure. Do not use it to replace prescribed eye drops or diabetes medication. If you have sensitive eyes or health conditions, consult a doctor before adding this to your routine.
