Michigan Rocks Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon warm water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cloves (optional)
1 pound pitted dates, chopped
3 cups chopped walnuts
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time.
Stir in vanilla.
Dissolve the baking soda in the warm water, then add to the mixture.
In another bowl, combine flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
Fold in chopped dates and walnuts.
Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto an ungreased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake for 10–15 minutes, until lightly golden around the edges.
Let cool slightly before removing.
