Sizzling Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions
Ingredients
500 g flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp sesame oil
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 large onion, sliced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
Sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tbsp beef broth or water
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp brown sugar or honey
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp cornstarch
Instructions
Marinate the steak
In a bowl, mix steak with 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp cornstarch, and sesame oil. Let sit for 15–20 minutes.
Prepare the sauce
Whisk together all sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Set aside.
Cook the vegetables
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add peppers and onions. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp. Remove and set aside.
Cook the beef
Add remaining oil to the pan. Add steak in a single layer and sear for 2–3 minutes until browned. Add garlic and ginger and cook for 30 seconds.
Combine everything
Return vegetables to the skillet. Pour in the sauce and toss everything together for 2–3 minutes until glossy and thickened.
Serve hot
Serve over steamed rice or noodles.
