Homemade Wonton Soup 🍜
A cozy, flavorful soup with tender wontons and a light savory broth. You can absolutely use store-bought wontons, but homemade ones really do make it special.
Ingredients
For the Wontons
250 g (Β½ lb) ground pork
150 g (β…“ lb) shrimp, finely chopped
2 green onions, finely sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
Β½ tsp salt
ΒΌ tsp black pepper
1 package wonton wrappers
For the Broth
6 cups chicken broth
2 cloves garlic, smashed
1-inch piece ginger, sliced
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
2 green onions, chopped
Optional: baby bok choy or spinach
Instructions
Make the Filling
In a bowl, mix pork, shrimp, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper until combined.
Fold the Wontons
Place 1 teaspoon filling in the center of each wrapper.
Wet edges with water.
Fold into a triangle and press tightly to seal.
Bring the two corners together and pinch.
Make the Soup
In a large pot, bring chicken broth, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and sesame oil to a gentle boil.
Add wontons carefully and cook 4–5 minutes, until they float and the filling is cooked through.
Add bok choy or spinach if using and simmer 1 minute more.
Serve
Ladle into bowls and top with green onions.
Optional toppings: chili oil, extra sesame oil, or soy sauce.
Tips
Freeze uncooked wontons on a tray, then store in a freezer bag for quick meals.
Chicken or turkey can replace pork.
For extra flavor, add a splash of rice vinegar or a dash of white pepper.
