Stuffed Cabbage Rolls
Ingredients
For the cabbage rolls
1 large green cabbage
500 g (1 lb) ground beef
1 cup cooked rice
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 egg
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp paprika
1 tbsp parsley, chopped
For the sauce
2 cups tomato sauce
1 tbsp tomato paste
1 cup beef broth or water
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the cabbage
Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
Remove the core from the cabbage.
Carefully place the cabbage into the boiling water for 3–5 minutes.
Peel off softened leaves one at a time and set aside. - Make the filling
In a bowl, combine:
Ground beef
Cooked rice
Onion
Garlic
Egg
Salt, pepper, paprika, and parsley
Mix until well combined. - Roll the cabbage
Place about 2–3 tablespoons of filling onto each cabbage leaf.
Fold in the sides and roll tightly like a burrito. - Assemble
Spread a little sauce on the bottom of a baking dish or pot.
Arrange cabbage rolls seam-side down.
Mix tomato sauce, tomato paste, broth, sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
Pour sauce over the rolls. - Cook
Oven method
Cover with foil.
Bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 1½ to 2 hours.
Stovetop method
Cover and simmer on low heat for about 1½ hours.

Sour cream
Fresh parsley
Tips
Freezes very well.
You can substitute ground turkey or pork.
Savoy cabbage works beautifully for softer rolls.
