π Fried Cornbread
Fried cornbread (sometimes called hoecakes or cornbread patties) is crispy on the outside and soft inside. Itβs simple, cheap, and perfect with beans, soup, or breakfast.
π§Ύ Ingredients
1 cup cornmeal
Β½ cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
Β½ tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar (optional)
1 egg
ΒΎ cup buttermilk (or milk)
2 tbsp melted butter or oil
Oil for frying

Mix dry ingredients
In a bowl combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
Add wet ingredients
Add egg, buttermilk, and melted butter. Stir until a thick batter forms.
Heat the oil
Heat about 2β3 tablespoons oil in a skillet (cast iron works best) over medium heat.
Fry the cornbread
Scoop about 2 tablespoons batter into the skillet and flatten slightly.
Cook until golden
Fry 2β3 minutes per side until crispy and golden brown.
Drain & serve
Place on paper towels and serve warm.
