🍪 Michigan Rocks (Old-Fashioned Recipe)
🧾 Ingredients
1 cup (225 g) butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
2 cups rolled oats
1 cup shredded coconut (optional, but traditional)
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
👩‍🍳 Instructions
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Cream butter & sugars
In a large bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs & vanilla
Mix in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
Mix dry ingredients
In another bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt.
Combine everything
Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
Fold in the good stuff
Stir in oats, coconut, chocolate chips, and nuts.
Scoop dough
Drop large spoonfuls onto the baking sheet—they should look rough and “rock-like.”
Bake
Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are golden but centers stay soft.
Cool
Let cool on the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a rack.
đź’ˇ Tips
Don’t overbake—they should stay soft and chewy inside.
If your mom’s version was darker and richer, try adding ½ cup raisins or using all brown sugar.
For extra texture, slightly under-mix the dough so it stays chunky.
