- Caramelize the onions
Heat butter in a pan over medium-low heat
Add onions + pinch of salt
Cook slowly (15β20 mins), stirring often
Add sugar halfway through for extra sweetness
Cook until deep golden and jammy β set aside - Make the patties
Divide beef into thin, slightly larger-than-bread patties
Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder
Cook in a hot pan (or skillet) 2β3 mins per side

Mix mayo, ketchup, mustard, relish
Taste and adjust (more tangy or creamy if you like) - Assemble
Butter one side of each bread slice
On the non-buttered side:
Spread sauce
Add cheese
Add beef patty
Add caramelized onions

Top with bread (buttered side out) - Grill to perfection
