Michigan Rocks (Old-Fashioned Recipe)

🍪 Michigan Rocks (Old-Fashioned Recipe)
🧾 Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter (softened)
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups raisins (or chopped dates)
1 cup hot water
👩‍🍳 Instructions
Soften the raisins
Pour hot water over the raisins and let them sit for about 5–10 minutes.
Do NOT drain—use the liquid too.
Mix wet ingredients
In a bowl, cream together butter, sugar, and brown sugar.
Add eggs and vanilla, mix until smooth.
Combine dry ingredients
In another bowl, mix flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
Bring it together
Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
Stir in the raisins along with the soaking liquid.
Bake
Pour batter into a greased 9×13-inch pan.
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes, or until set.
🍯 Simple Glaze (Optional but traditional!)
1 cup powdered sugar
2–3 tbsp milk
1/2 tsp vanilla
Mix and drizzle over the cooled bars.
💡 Tips
Texture should be soft, moist, and slightly dense—not crispy.
You can add chopped walnuts if your mom used them.
Some versions skip the glaze, but it adds that classic sweet finish.
