Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy 🍽️
Ingredients
For the patties:
1 lb (450 g) ground beef
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 small onion, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil (for frying)
For the onion gravy:
2 tablespoons butter
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Make the patties
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper.
Mix gently until just combined, then shape into 4–5 oval patties. - Brown the patties
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Cook patties for about 4–5 minutes per side until nicely browned. Remove and set aside. - Prepare the onion gravy
In the same skillet, melt butter.
Add sliced onions and cook for 8–10 minutes until soft and golden.
Sprinkle flour over onions and stir for 1 minute.
Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps.
Add Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Simmer for 3–4 minutes until thickened. - Finish cooking
Return patties to the skillet.
Spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer for 10–15 minutes until fully cooked.

Rice
Buttered noodles
Green beans or peas
