Savory Monte Cristo Sandwich
Ingredients
8 slices white bread or brioche
4 slices cooked ham
4 slices turkey or chicken deli meat
4 slices Swiss cheese
2 large eggs
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
Powdered sugar for topping (optional)
Raspberry jam or strawberry jam for serving (optional)
Instructions
Lay out 4 slices of bread.
Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard if using.
Add ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese to each sandwich.
Top with the remaining bread slices and press gently.
In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon of butter.
Dip each sandwich quickly into the egg mixture, coating both sides lightly.
Place sandwiches in the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Add more butter as needed for the second batch.
Slice in half, dust lightly with powdered sugar if desired, and serve warm with raspberry jam.
