Homemade Soft Everyday Bread 🍞
After trying this easy homemade bread, you may never want store-bought bread again!
Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour (about 500 g)
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon instant dry yeast
1 1/4 cups warm water (about 300 ml)
1/4 cup warm milk (60 ml)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
1 egg (optional, for softer bread)
For Brushing
1 egg yolk + 1 tablespoon milk
or
melted butter after baking
Instructions
In a large bowl, mix warm water, warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Add oil (and egg if using), then salt.
Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or small rolls.
Place in a greased baking pan or on a baking tray. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes.
Brush the top with egg yolk mixture.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180Β°C (350Β°F) for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown.
Brush with melted butter after baking for extra softness.
Tips
Add sesame seeds or oats on top for extra flavor.
You can replace part of the flour with whole wheat flour.
Perfect for sandwiches, breakfast, or serving with soup.
