Slow Cooker Savory Pork Shoulder
This easy recipe uses one rich savory liquid—usually beef broth—to turn pork shoulder into a tender, flavorful meal.
Ingredients
2–3 lb pork shoulder (boneless or bone-in)
2 cups beef broth
1 onion, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon dried thyme
2 tablespoons olive oil (optional)
Instructions
Place the sliced onion and garlic in the bottom of the slow cooker.
Season the pork shoulder with salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme.
(Optional) Sear the pork in a hot pan with olive oil for 2–3 minutes per side for extra flavor.
Put the pork shoulder into the slow cooker on top of the onions.
Pour the beef broth over the pork.
Cover and cook:
Low: 8–10 hours
High: 5–6 hours
Once tender, shred or slice the pork and spoon some cooking juices over the top before serving.
