1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage
1 cup pancake mix
3/4 cup milk
1 egg

1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional but tasty!)
Maple syrup (for serving)

Cook the sausage

Assemble the casserole
Spread the cooked sausage evenly in the baking dish.
