Wonton Soup
A cozy homemade wonton soup with tender dumplings, flavorful broth, and fresh greens. You can absolutely use store-bought wontons, but homemade ones have incredible flavor and texture.
Ingredients
For the Wontons
250 g (½ lb) ground pork or chicken
1 cup finely chopped shrimp (optional)
2 green onions, finely sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp grated ginger
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
1 package wonton wrappers
For the Soup
6 cups chicken broth
2 cloves garlic, smashed
1 inch ginger, sliced
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1–2 cups bok choy or spinach
2 green onions, sliced
Optional: mushrooms, noodles, chili oil
Instructions

  1. Make the Filling
    In a bowl, mix:
    Ground pork/chicken
    Shrimp
    Green onions
    Garlic
    Ginger
    Soy sauce
    Sesame oil
    Salt & pepper
    Mix until well combined.
  2. Fold the Wontons
    Place 1 tsp filling in the center of each wrapper.
    Wet edges with water.
    Fold into a triangle and press tightly.
    Bring the two corners together and pinch.
  3. Prepare the Broth
    In a pot, add:
    Chicken broth
    Garlic
    Ginger
    Soy sauce
    Simmer for 10 minutes to build flavor.
  4. Cook the Wontons
    Bring broth to a gentle boil.
    Drop in wontons carefully.
    Cook 4–5 minutes until they float and are fully cooked.
  5. Finish the Soup
    Add bok choy or spinach and cook 1 minute more. Stir in sesame oil.
    Serve
    Ladle into bowls and top with:
    Green onions
    Chili oil
    Extra soy sauce
    Crispy garlic
