Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy
Ingredients
For the Salisbury Steaks
1 lb (450 g) ground beef
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 small onion, finely grated
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp ketchup
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp paprika
1 tbsp oil or butter for frying
For the Onion Gravy
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp thyme (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Make the Patties
In a large bowl, mix:
ground beef
breadcrumbs
egg
grated onion
garlic
ketchup
Worcestershire sauce
salt, pepper, and paprika
Form into 4 oval-shaped patties. - Brown the Steaks
Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
Cook patties for about 4–5 minutes per side until nicely browned. Remove and set aside. - Cook the Onions
In the same skillet, melt butter.
Add sliced onions and cook slowly for 10–15 minutes until soft and golden. - Make the Gravy
Sprinkle flour over onions and stir for 1 minute.
Slowly whisk in beef broth. Add Worcestershire sauce and thyme.
Simmer until thickened, about 3–5 minutes. - Finish
Return patties to the skillet.
Spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes until fully cooked and tender.
Serve With

Rice
Buttered noodles
Steamed vegetables
