French Onion Soup π§

Ingredients
4 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
3 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon flour
6 cups beef broth
1/2 cup dry white wine (optional)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt and black pepper, to taste
1 baguette, sliced
1 1/2 cups shredded Gruyère cheese (or mozzarella + parmesan mix)
Instructions
In a large pot, melt butter with olive oil over medium heat.
Add sliced onions and cook slowly for 25β30 minutes, stirring often, until deep golden and caramelized.
Add garlic and sugar, cook for 2 minutes.
Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
Pour in wine (if using) and let it simmer for 2 minutes.
Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, bay leaf, thyme, salt, and pepper.
Simmer for 20β25 minutes. Remove bay leaf.
Toast baguette slices until crisp.
Ladle soup into oven-safe bowls, top with toasted bread and plenty of cheese.
Broil for 2β3 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
