Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy
Ingredients
For the steaks
1 lb (450 g) ground beef
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
Salt and black pepper to taste
For the onion gravy
1 large onion, sliced
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
In a bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Shape into 4 oval patties.
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and brown the patties for about 4–5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
In the same skillet, melt the butter and cook the onions until soft and golden, about 10 minutes.
Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir for 1 minute.
Slowly whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until the gravy thickens.
Return the patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes until fully cooked.
